Potty Training - Sesame Street 1-2-3 Learn with Me Potty Chair

February 1, 2010

Whoever said girls were easier then boys obviously has no idea what they are talking about, or has never tried to train my strong willed daughter one or the other.

Last year for Easter Maddisyn got a new potty, and refused to sit on it.  It was a carefully chosen potty in neutral colors so her brother could too use it but with a comfy seat so she would not mind so much sitting on it FAIL!!! epic fail actually.  She hated the darn thing and refused to sit on it.  I thought ok she is just a little too young yet for it, she was not quite 2 and I will not push her to train.  So we waited, kept asking her to sit on the potty with the same refusal.  She finally decided she wanted to wear panties, so we told her she would have to potty as well if she was wearing panties.  Again she refused to sit on the potty that we bought.

I got frustrated and had no idea what to do, I mean I am still not pushing her but I really don't want an unpotty trained 3 year old.  So Maddisyn and I went on the great potty hunt, well I did she just sat at the computer with me.  I came across the Sesame Street 1-2-3 Learn with Me Potty Chair by Kolcraft, which BTW just happens to be my favorite seller of baby items and I have worked wtih in the past and will be working with again in the near future, and immediatly thought I had a winner.  Maddisyn loves elmo and paired with the Elmo's Potty Time movie I thought this would be PERFECT.  So we headed off to walmart and bought it for her, brought it home and put her into panties, the first day we had a couple of accidents and one time she started peeing but told me and we ran to the potty and she finished there.  I was so proud of her and we gave her mini tootsie rolls to reward her attempt.  Apparently the soft potty seat has nothing on Elmo lol.

Over the next few days we had more accidents then making it to the potty, she knows when she has to go, the problem is that she waits until it is too late and then we don't make it to the potty in time.  Today she actually came up to Lee without him asking and said peepee, but alas they were too late and she peed her panties before she made it there, but yay for her asking she just needs to do it a few min sooner.  She was still willing to sit on the potty though and after a couple of minutes asked Lee, I get tootsie?

Lets talk about sleep

January 14, 2010

And lack thereof.  Last night Holden was up twice well actually he was only up once last night and then once again at 7 am, he gets up, gets a bottle and drinks it and goes back to sleep.  He is a very easy baby but sometimes he gets up at night, thankfully not often.

I do know of people who have it less then fun though, their baby is up all night or they have insomnia or even worse they need like CPAP machines or something like that.  I have heard that CPAP machines can be loud and rather annoying although life saving and very necessary.  I feel terrible for people with CPAP machines because they have to wear the CPAP masks all night, I would totally freak out if I had to wear something on my face like that all night, I get clausterphobic just thinking of it.  Even the people on the portable oxygen concentrators get my deepest sympathy because of the constant mask or cannula.

Ok now that I have rambled back to my monkeys.  As I said Holden sleeps through most of the time but last night he was up briefly twice, thank god my loving husband told me to stay in bed and he got up with him for me although I did stay awake until he came back to bed anyhow.  Then there is Maddisyn she goes from one extreme to another.  She had been staying up all night long or most of the night which isn't terrible because she is still int he crib so she just kinda plays and stays quiet.  We usually put her to bed at 8ish and she goes to sleep for a couple of hours and wakes up at 11 or 12 and stays up the rest of the night.  Last night though  she begged to go to bed at 8 oclock so we put her down, well Lee did I was out visiting my friend Jessica with Holden.  I got home at 9:30 and she was still up in there claiming she could not sleep.  So Lee and I snuggled up on the couch and watched a movie and headed to bed about 12:30 and Maddisyn was STILL up telling us she could not sleep, I am not sure what time she went to sleep at but I know she slept the night because she was up at 8 am and only gets up on her own that early if we wake her or if she slept the entire night.  I just want her to start sleeping through the night so that she can go for sleep overs to my mother in laws and so I can put her into a big girl bed and get the bedding from Little Miss Matched I am so in love with.

Do your little ones sleep through the night in a big bed?  How do you help your kids sleep through the night?

headache headache go away

January 13, 2010

Does anybody have a miracle cure for a headache?  I have had one that has followed me for three days, my life must go on, we must continue on our routine but everytime a child screams I fear my head will explode and I don't want to leave that kind of mess behind lol.  i have tried hot cloths, cold cloths, tylenol, advil, ibuprofin, short of selling my kids I have no solution so tell me what you do when you have a headache please.

I am Trying

December 17, 2009

I am spiraling deep into burnout.  Not so much blogger burnout just burnout in general, I am trying to get a bunch of reviews posted here, I am trying to keep up on my home, keep my kids happy and entertained, plan for christmas, Blakes birthday is Sunday, working on a friends vehicle (well lee is I am just keeping him company), cooking for my family, christmas baking, christmas shopping and parties and present wrapping and on and on and on, I know that was a run on but you know what it seems so is my life these days and it is fitting.

I am doing my best to get prizes already won out before the holidays but I do not control companies speed so please don't email me 12 times a day asking where your prize is or threatening to email the companies customer service 1. it will not make me move any quicker and 2. 9 times out of 10 I am dealing with a representing PR firm and not the company directly so customer service will have no idea what your talking about.

I will still continue drudging on as usual trying to get my posts done as well but will likely be posting in spurts over the next few days and will not be posting much if anything at all from christmas eve through to Dec 27th because we are that busy those four days.

I really am trying though and do appreciate all your patience.

What was I thinking

December 12, 2009

I let 10 screaming kids into my house today for my sons birthday party.  Now Blakes birthday is not until next sunday the 20th, but it is so close to christmas we always have his party a few weeks ahead.  We did an at home party this year since christmas was so expensive for us and I ask again WHAT WAS I THINKING.  They were fairly well behaved I will give them that, we had a couple minor injuries all easily solved but man were they loud.

We decorated gingerbread men cookies, watched a movie and had popcorn.  Then they ate pizza and then cake and Blake opened his gifts.  The only time it was quiet was when they were eating, i wanted to keep feeding them it was sweet silence.

Blake had told me he wanted a camoflauge cake for his birthday but then he wanted to decorate gingerbread men so we went with a gingerbread man/winterish theme.  The loot bags were christmas mugs with a few candies in them and then a hot chocolate cone topped with white and normal choclate and marshmallows.  I wanted to do a gingerbread man cake but we try to stick with the kids requests so we did both.  We were up til 3 am decorating this cake and then up again at 8 to get ready for his party, I am exhausted now.

We even did a camo on the inside of the cake with a similar method I used for Maddisyns cake

I will add pics of the loot bags once Jen sends them to me i forgot to take my own but her little girl Vi was here so she is going to take a pic for me.

Edible Purse

December 10, 2009

I just wanted to share another cake that we made.  We started to bake it at 5 pm and by the time it was baked and decorated, well we just finished it 20 minutes ago at 1 am phew that was a long time.  I am rather proud please keep in mind we do not claim to be professionals but love doing this for our family and friends, we do not follow a book we wing it all the way.  You can also go HERE to see some of the other cakes we have done in the past.

This one is for a new friends birthday which is tomorrow, i hope she likes it.

Cakes of Occasions past

November 19, 2009

There are all cakes we have done in the past for different birthdays etc.  these were all done with icing as we had no idea how to work with fondant but we are learning and will be starting for my birthday on Monday and Blakes for December.

Blake went through a phase when he loved hamburgers so I made him a Hamburger cake

Chase's Gameboy

My Father In Laws Caterpillar.

Blakes Birthday is in December so he wanted a snowman

Lee's co-worker left to move away and go to school, this is the cake i made her

Maddisyns first birthday cake, took us 10 hours to icing and decorate the entire thing.

Her first birthday smash cake

My father in law and Chase both share the same birthdate of February 14th, last year we did a bbq in the snow for them and had summer themed cakes
This one was Chase's

This one was my father in laws

The boys wanted a cake for school so we sent them a crayon cake

Halloween cake for cubs this year

Last but certainly not least and only last for now is Maddisyns second birthday cake

Sleep where are you?

Someone stole my sleep and I really need it returned for tonight.  So my kids are all weird and apparently have chosen to take turns keeping me up all night long.  My kids were all great babies, they slept through the night from the day they were born, I never had that new mom frazzled look after a night of being awake all night, I felt truly blessed.

Then they got older haha.  We bought a house in May and since the move our daughter Maddisyn has been going to bed at 8 pm like a good little angel, but then she gets up at 12 or 1 and stays up all night long.  I got so desperate for sleep we gave her a tv and now she just lays in bed and watches cartoons and I can sleep, don't worry she is safely tucked away in her crib and when I say sleep I mean close my eyes and barely feel rested in the AM.  Then she got a cold about a week ago and sweet bliss, she goes to bed around 9 or 10 pm, yes I know later but a willing trade off because she is now sleeping all night.

So where is the problem you ask, well i am used to being half asleep so now I am not able to sleep soundly at night yet soon I hope.

Now onto Holden.  My sweet boy is also an all night sleeper except for last night.  He is in the end stages of a cold where when he coughs a lot he brings up mucous, only being a baby he throws it up or chokes on it.  So i got up and sat with him on my chest until 5 am when he seemed to have stopped coughing and settled into a good sound sleep, I then popped him into his crib and I managed to sleep for two hours until it was time to get the older two boys up and ready for school.

I NEED A NAP!!!!!!!!!!

Sleep will come though I am told, when they are teenagers you do get to sleep slightly more although I hear you are just up worrying at night about a whole new set of problems.

On top of all this complaining though I must say i love my monkeys er i mean kids, and would not trade a day with them for anything in the world.

The sweetest sound

November 17, 2009

Don't mind the pink background lol, this is our 7 month old son Holden, he was laying in his sisters crib waiting to go to his own bed and Lee started playing with him.

Early Birthday Celebration

November 15, 2009

Last night we went to my dads house to celebrate my birthday early.  I turn 28 on November 23rd and they were going to be busy so would not be able to come to our house for cake so they had us over as well it was my step mothers sister and her sister in laws birthdays all coming up so we celebrated all three at once.  We had a very nice strawberry shortcake type cake and lots of talking and laughing which was a welcome change from our disaster Thanksgiving.

My dad and stepmother June gave me a card with two gift certificates in it, one to sears and one to the bulk barn.  For my birthday I had asked for cake decorating stuff, Lee and I really enjoy decorating our own cakes for birthdays and occasions and need more supplies so that is what I told everyone I wanted this year.  I am so excited to go pick out some new cake stuff to use and am actually thinking of venturing into the world of fondant with Blakes coming birthday in December.

I am not sure if i have shared our cakes with you all before but I will post some pictures of them in a different blog post.

Why i shop at Walmart and more

So i know before i mentioned shopping at walmart a lot and promised to tell you why in a later post.  So here it is, I live in the a very small town where we have Walmart as a big department store and that is about it.  There is Kmart and I go there occasionally but for the most part it is just walmart, nothing exciting but thought i would just post that as some of my randomness.

I want to try to post more about my general life but I hate to say we are rather boring, we don't do much of specialness at all.  Lee works til 6 by the time he gets off and we eat and get cleaned up it is time to start our bedtime routine.  He is off every second weekend so we try to spend time together then but it is so cold here lately that we cannot even go outside, I need to get the two babies stroller muffs or blankets so we can go for walks and they will be warm still.  We are planning on taking the kids to Great Wolf Lodge for what will be their fourth and my fifth trip there.  We love it so much and have so much fun it is totally worth it for us to go and it is only about 3 hours or so away.  I like going cause then i get to shop at Gap and Old Navy and Meijer.  So for now I will settle with posting random things here and there and bringing you guys these great reviews.

Coming to the best people in the world for advice

November 3, 2009

I need to get something for Holden for winter when we go out in his carseat and in the stroller.  Keep in mind that we sometimes walk to our school about 10 min walk to spend the morning at our Parent and Family Literacy center.  I am not sure I want a traditional snowsuit that leaves him looking like a star that can't bend his arms or legs lol.  I am looking for something that is more like a bunting bag the has a spot for the straps of his carseat to do up int he crotch or something along those lines anyhow.
I like this one from the Gap but it is 50 dollars and I am not sure I am willing to spend that much on it.

It converts to one with legs

But anyways in your searches around the net if you find something similar (it does not have to convert to have legs I like the bunting style anyhow that the strap goes through.  In a size 12ish months or so, please let me know where and link me up.  I am not against buying used either if you see one online or whatever used for a reasonable price.

A Cold and Blistery Night AKA Halloween

November 1, 2009

So we took the three older kids trick or treating last night with Jen and her kids from Jen's Herd, thankfully my mother in law came down to hand out our candy and agreed to keep Holden home as it was such a yucky night.  It was windy, rainy, cold and just gross.  Just hours before we would have gone trick or treating power was going out at people houses and trees were falling down.

We braved the rain and wind anyhow with Maddisyn in her ladybug costume we received from Victorias Boutique, Blake as a zombie and Chase as a wizard.  Maddisyn had a great time and loved going house to house saying trick or treat and I think my child is the politest kid on earth haha at every house she had to ensure she said Thank you and for added cuteness told everyone she would see them tomorrow.

Each kid got a full pillowcase of candy so I thnk they got more then enough.  Although I was slightly disappointed with the area we live in and ended up loading the kids into the van and going to my dads neighbourhood to trick or treat, which was fine anyhow since all my dads neighbours love to see my kids.  While in our neighbourhood we walked for like 45 minutes and successfully got candy from 6 houses, either people were not home or were not handing out candy.  I think that H1N1 had a bit to do with that.  My dads neighbourhood though everyone was handing out candy and loving seeing all the kids dressed up.

Apparently my neighbourhood did not get many kids at all because we bought two boxes of chips with 65 bags in each and only got like 20 kids so I have TONS of plain chips to dip into my sour cream.

All in all the kids had fun trick or treating and we have fun going out with them.  For those that may be wondering we did get to show off Holdens costume, we dressed all the kids up before supper and took them around to visit with family members that love to see the kids all dressed up but can't come to us to see them.

Today now though I am exhausted and so are the kids, last night when we were heading home I told the boys, when we get home it is straight to bed, they were so excited about going to bed they were practically begging to go home lol.

I am a dork though and forgot to take pictures of the kids in their costumes so i have nothing to document this halloween and am kind of sad about that because it was Holdens first, although I could dress him up again and take a picture to make me feel better.

Cakes for Cubs

October 28, 2009

Yesterday the boys had their halloween party for cubs, they got to wear their costumes and bring treats.  While there they bobbed for apples, had a hobos pinata (a large brown paper bag tied to a hockey stick that the leaders took turns holding rather then hanging it from the ceiling).  Then they ran around and played, then had their treats.  The boys had a blast and said it was so exciting and they could not wait until halloween to get more treats.

The boys each asked me to make something for cubs and they wanted to bring two treats instead of one, so I made cookies for one to bring and cake for the other.  I am not by any means professional but had fun making them.

For all those going out trick or treating please be safe, wear reflective gear and carry a flashlight.

Tis the Season

October 23, 2009

Thats right tis the season, but not for the holidays, for the cold and flu to strike.  Here at our house the cold is already making its move to attack.  Holden got it but I have managed to keep teh rest of us healthy, how is that you ask.

Well when the cold hits i double time it with the lysol wipes.  I make sure that like 4 times a day I wipe down everything with the wipes, currently it is just Holden sick so he does not walk yet so I only have to worry about me touching him and then touching stuff.  Which brings me to method 2, I ensure I was my hands like a million times a day and if i cannot get to water I use purell.  When we go places I have some lysol wipes that I use to wipe down shopping carts, I may look weird but I know my family will be healthy.  For the older kids I start giving them extra vitamin C a day and flintstones vitamins for Maddisyn to ensure their immune system can stave off a cold better.

For the flu it is the same practise, keep everything clean and wiped down and try to minimize germ transfer.  My kids are taught not to touch their face or mouth until they have washed their hands and we wash everything down.  I have a super immune system and in 27 years have only had the flu twice, my husband on the other hand gets it everytime anyone else does which generally leaves me caring for a houseful of vomiting, whining people.

I am hesitant to use cold medicines with my children such as tylenol or the like because I don't like some risks that medicine give.  Thanks to One2One network though I have found homeopathic medicines to treat cold and flu which I am excited to get and give a try when my crew does get sick because I feel no matter how much i try they can still pick it up from school or cubs or swimming or friends.

Boiron, world leader in homeopathy, is a $500 million public company with 3,800 employees in more than 80 countries. It is best known for its top-selling flu medicine, Oscillococcinum, and its Arnicare line of pain relievers. For more than 75 years, Boiron has been committed to funding scientific research and educating the public and healthcare professionals on homeopathic medicines.
As a pharmaceutical company, Boiron maintains the highest standards in manufacturing, complying with U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulations, the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States and drug Good Manufacturing Practices.

Boiron introduces three new homeopathic medicines for children:

New to help parents are Children’s Oscillococcinum to nip flu-like symptoms in the bud and Children’s Coldcalm Pellets, a multi-symptom cold reliever. Along with Children’s Chestal for all types of coughs, these homeopathic medicines work safely and naturally without causing side effects and they won’t interact with other medications. They do not contain any of the ingredients questioned by the FDA for use in young children. All three are sweet-tasting and kid-friendly. All three are from Boiron, world leader in homeopathy and maker of Oscillococcinum®, which has been relied upon by families around the world for more than 65 years.

 What is Homeopathy?

  •  Homeopathy is a therapeutic method used to help the body rebalance and heal itself.
  • It uses natural substances in micro-doses.
  • Homeopathic medicines are used to treat many conditions, such as allergies, flu-like symptoms, cough and cold, pre-menstrual syndrome, arthritic pain, etc.

What are the benefits?

  • Work safely and naturally without side effects or drug interactions.
  • Does not contain any of the ingredients questioned by the FDA for use in young children.
  • No risks of overdosing.
  • Children’s Oscillococcinum and Children’s Coldcalm Pellets are sweet-tasting, kid-friendly, melt-aways that dissolve quickly . No water, chewing or swallowing is required. Sweet Children’s Chestal uses the natural goodness of honey as a base to instantly coat and soothe the throat.
  • For more than 65 years, Oscillococcinum has worked naturally to reduce both the duration and the severity of flu and flu-like symptoms. Now Children’s Oscillococcinum is available to nip these symptoms in the bud. Like Oscillo it should be taken at the first sign of feeling achy or rundown with fever or chills.
  • While many cold medicines treat only a symptom or two, newly launched Children’s Coldcalm Pellets is a complete multi-symptom cold reliever for sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion and minor sore throat pain.
  • Children’s Chestal cough syrups simplify the process of choosing a cough medicine by creating an economical all-in-one formula to relieve all types of coughs due to minor throat and bronchial irritation that may occur with a cold. This multi-cough option relieves coughs as well as loosens chest congestion
  • Children’s Oscillococcinum and Children’s Chestal are for children older than 2; Children’s Coldcalm Pellets is for children older than 3.
Where can they be purchased?
  • Parents should prepare by stocking the family medicine cabinet since Children’s Oscillococcinum works best at the first sign of symptoms to nip flu in the bud and avoid getting caught without comforting medicine when a child becomes ill in the middle of the night. All Boiron medicines can conveniently be picked up without a prescription.
  • Most natural food stores and major retail drug chains such as CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens, and many others
  • Store Finder
  • Online & Mail Order Store Finder

Good intentions...Bad Computer

October 16, 2009

I know i have not really blogged much, I had a family issue happen on Monday at a family dinner that i will post more about later but it really took a lot out of me and i needed to take time for me to regroup, and then I had full intentions of getting another giveaway up for you all to enter today but last night I decided to format my computer because it was being weird and somehow my bakup files got corrupt so I spent the day doing what i can to recover sponsor emails, so yeah that was my fun for today.  I promise tomorrow we will have at least 1 revieww and giveaway posted by the evening if not more.

To my sponsors if I email you asking you for info please know it is because I need a better external Hard drive because mine is the reason i lost everything including precious pictures of my kids and all my giveaway data.  If anyone can recommend a good external hard drive i am listening.

I do know that i had three Giveaways end today and i will draw tomorrow and contact winners, i really need to get some sleep after the family issues from Monday i have barely slept a wink.

Kids Doctors Appointments

October 6, 2009

So yesterday I had to bring Holden for his 6 month checkup and while booking the appointment i decided to book the boys to go as well because they both ended up with small warts that would not leave.

While i made the appointment a month ago and by the time yesterday came Chase's warts, which were on his feet, have all spontaniously disappeared.  They weighed and measured Chase and at 10 yrs 8 mths old he weighed 106 lbs and was 58 inches tall.

Blake has a small wart on his wrist and it is still there so we have these patches we have to put on his wrist at night then put duct tape overtop and leave it on overnight and remove it in the morning, we have to do this for a month and then it should be gone.  Blake at 8 yrs 10 mths old weighed 64.5 lbs and was 54 inches tall  While we were there I asked the doc to listen very well to his heart just to make sure all was well because blake had Supraventricular tachycardia and an arrythmia as a baby which almost took his life not once but three times.  When diagnoised his heart rate was 220 BPM, in a 2 month infant 120 is the norm his heart was going so fast it was ready to stop.  Then when we were trying medications to slow his heart and make it beat normal again one of the meds we tried caused him to have a seizure and stop breathing and his heart stopped briefly.  This really is a story for a post of its own because it is LONG so i will leave it here for now and write a post about it later.

Then it was Holdens turn, the doc checked his ears, nose, throat and paid very very close attention to his heart rate as we had one child with heart problems we now watch them all VERY closely, everything was great another big sigh of relief, as a mother I know that I could take it again if I have to but it very nearly killed me the last time i dealt with major health issues, I send out very major kudos to those that deal with these ongoing issues, 6 years was very much enough for me.  Holden weighed in at 17lbs 12 ozs and is 27" long, he is such a tiny little one still.  He got his needles and did great only cried for a couple of seconds then i picked him up and he was quiet and other then being whiny yesterday we had no adverse reactions.

While there I asked him about Maddisyn, she did not have an appt but i figured I may as well bring her up.  I was concerned about her eating habits and her size.  She only eats rice and potatos, she used to eat veggies like they were going out of style but rarely eats those now and she will only eat ham if it is a full piece not cut up.  Other then that my child does not eat, she HATES meat and I am very concerned.  At 2 yrs 2 months she weighed 25 lbs and is 36.6 inches tall.

So that is my children and their doc appts.  They are all healthy and happy kids, Maddisyn needs to gain some weight or eat some meat but for now we will try to get her to eat more eggs and legumes, and of course we give her vitamins for now.
